Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The latest in the long line of occupation-but-badass films (The Baker, The Beekeeper etc.), Cleaner sees window cleaner Joey (Daisy Ridley) taking on terrorists who attack the building she is scrubbing.
I feel so sorry for anyone who signs up to a Martin Campbell film on the strength of Casino Royale; the script bears some of the blame but might have been salvaged with a lighter touch. It's eco-terrorists making the attack, in an attempt to expose the crimes of the selfish executives having a party there, and this should have been the setup for something cartoonishly fun. Instead it's played as deadly serious, leaning in to its themes of social justice with heavy-handed sincerity. Performances are all pretty good; Taz Skylar has the most fun as the unhinged Noah.
