Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A big part of Robert Eggers' schtick is creating appropriate atmosphere -- such as in The Witch's portrayal of puritan paranoia in a time with more superstition than science. The Northman, his retelling of the story of Amleth (inspiration for Hamlet), is life in a world where magic might be real, where it is fair and reasonable to believe in signs and portents, where the dark is full of monsters. It's a fine action movie, but what makes it special is the alien intensity of the experience.
