Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A soldier (Paddy Considine) returns home to terrorize the thugs who mistreated his disabled brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell). I think I would describe it as something like an inverse John Wick: a man kills everyone, but nothing is sexy and nothing is stylish; the crims are bottom-feeding scum who drive around in an ugly, too-small car.
Director Shane Meadows I think gets in his own way slightly, with unnecessary directorial flourishes like black-and-white flashbacks. But the way the backstory unfolds gradually is effective and the violence is gritty and plausible in a way very unlike a traditional action hero.
