Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Thugs steal the car and murder the dog of unassuming, grieving widower, only to discover that (uh oh!) he is a former mob assassin, the boogeyman to boogeymen, and he really needs to work through some issues.
I rather suspect that the success of Taken has poisoned the action flick well and this sort of curbstomp revenge fantasy is all that we'll get for a while, which is a little unfortunate; a John Wick (Keanu Reeves) can never be as sympathetic a figure as an everyman John McClane, no matter how ham-fisted the attempt at filling his life with emotional pain.
It all goes more or less as expected. By far the best reason to watch is the astoundingly well-choreographed gunplay, but Wick himself does have a pleasing emotional arc if you don't stop and think too hard about it.
