Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Someone in Not Quite Hollywood called Russell Mulcahey the poor man's Ridley Scott, which would make Razorback the bankrupt man's Alien. Spunky environmentalist Beth Winters (Judy Morris) goes into the outback to do a story on kangaroo hunting, only to fall foul of murderous locals and a wild boar the size of a rhinoceros.
It's a pretty dreadful attempt, most notably the hicksploitation -- bogansploitation? -- and the Scott-esque night scenes. The daylight scenes are generally engaging and well shot, so it's unfortunate that the days keep giving way to nights filled with mist and bright lights shining through industrial fans.
The high notes, such as the surreal desert trek, come nowhere near compensating for the inept "final battle" in the slaugherhouse.
