Sean Connery returns after the shift to wooden grit in On Her Majesty's Secret Service with the entry that comes the closest to recapturing the magic of Goldfinger, presumably due in large part to the return of director Guy Hamilton. It's very much in that mode, with a light-hearted tone, colourful villains and a space-laser plot.
It must be said that it's rather confusing for the binge-watcher to see not only a third Blofeld (Charles Gray), but one who appeared in You Only Live Twice as a different character.
One of the few Bond films I'd seen before, it's held up quite well: Messrs. Kidd and Wint (Putter Smith, Bruce Glover) provide the menace, Blofeld (Charles Gray) and his cat an absurd plot involving a diamond-focused laser, Plenty O'Toole (Lana Wood) the sex appeal and comic relief. It's a lot of fun.
