Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The interesting thing about First Blood was that it pitted John Rambo, traumatized Vietnam super-soldier, against his own country. He has trouble returning to civilian life, and when his service is repaid with small-town bigotry, he strikes back in the only way he knows how. It eventually deteriorates into a mess of explosions, but until that point it's surprisingly thoughtful.
Its sequel is not. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is taken from his prison and sent back to Vietnam, there to combat gooks, Russians and two-faced American bureaucrats. I wish I were kidding. Where First Blood was surprisingly complex, First Blood Part II is everything that the Rambo stereotype would suggest. Avoid.
