Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
In 1910, Lord Rawnsley (Robert Morley) offers a ten thousand pound prize to win a race from London to Paris, intending to prove that Britain is at the forefront of aviation. Like The Great Race from the same year, the contest attracts a variety of comically exaggerated contestants, including moustachioed villain Sir Percy (Terry-Thomas), who tries to cheat his way to victory. This is a much more staid film, however (no insane gadgets beyond the bizarre concept aircraft of the time), just a wholesome love letter to the golden age of aviation. A touch of romance rounds it out. Great fun.
