Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
I think it was on the Team Deakins podcast that someone made a comment about how this kind of mid-period James Bond became a kind of ridiculous world tour: where haven't we set a car chase, yet? (Here Greece, Spain...)
More of a serious spy story after the science fiction of Moonraker, the MacGuffin here is an encryption device; the enemy, a criminal in the employ of the KGB. Like the Lazenby entry On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the last attempted pivot from camp to grit, it lacks a lot of the series' absurd charm. Compared to the standards of action choreography de rigueur 40 years later it doesn't much hold up.
Competent but utterly unmemorable.
