Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet) returns to the outback town where she grew up, and from which she was cast out, bringing with her glamour, Parisian fashion, and revenge. Sort of.
The tone here is all over the place, mostly aiming for comical but then abruptly pivoting to tragic melodrama. Performances are good enough, but hampered by the director's choice to have a number of characters exaggerated to the point of parody. There's a touch of mystery to it -- what actually happened on the day that left Tilly accused of murder? -- that is finally resolved by possibly the stupidest plot-twist in the history of narrative. An unsatisfying mess.
