Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The strangest thing about Pump up the Volume, in which disaffected teen Mark (Christian Slater) comes to local and national attention through his pirate radio station, is its reminder than in 1990 it was difficult for a young person to have any kind of "platform". Compare, for example, Run Hide Fight, where a major plot point involves students live-streaming from their phones. It's almost bizarre to see so many contemporary issues -- such as students in online social spaces confiding suicide plans -- prefigured in a scenario which just feels primitive.
It's just so hard to take seriously.
