Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
I'm still not sure how I feel about George Miller's balls-to-the-wall crazy Mad Max sequel/reboot. The action is spectacular, the vision -- bizarre post-apocalyptic death metal speed cults -- unique. But worldbuilding is not Miller's strong suit, and the impression here is that the film is all surface image.
Nothing bears deeper examination, not the backstory or motivations of Max (Tom Hardy) or Furiosa (Charlize Theron), not the unlikely existence of the Citadel or the rest of its world, and not its purported feminist credentials.
It feels like something out of Heavy Metal magazine -- violence, scantily-clad ladies and backstory that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And, if nothing else, it's glorious to see a bold, unique vision do well at the box office. it's refreshing antidote to the staling Marvel formula.
