Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Enjoyable as it is, The Grand Budapest Hotel is like a caricature of Wes Anderson -- relentlessly quirky; all surface, no depth. The story within a story within a story concerns M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes), concierge at the Grand Budapest Hotel, and his protégé Zero (Tony Revolori). It's part heist, part prison break, part murder mystery, all gloriously lo-fi.
Anderson draws from his experience on Fantastic Mr. Fox with comical use of stop-motion miniatures and matte-painted backgrounds whenever the action strays outside of his meticulously decorated sets.
Hollow, but a charming and energetic romp.
