Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A fun twist on Cast Away sees male Kim (Jung Jae-young) attempts suicide by jumping off a bridge in Seoul but washes ashore on an island in the middle of the Han River. Despite being crossed by a road bridge, he is unable to climb up or swim away: a prisoner on a deserted island from which he can see the city lights.
The other protagonist, female Kim (Jung Ryeo-won), is a hikikomori woman who spies him through the telescope she typically uses to watch the moon.
It's a romance, of a sort -- he scrawls a message on the beach and she responds with a letter in a bottle... -- but if so it is perhaps closest to I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK. It is a story of two broken people healing themselves and each other.
It's hilarious in parts and moving in others. Performances are excellent and it looks gorgeous. If it's not quite believable enough to take seriously, well, it's still marvelous.
