Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Surprisingly great parody of teen movies of the 80s and 90s, primarily taking the plot structure of teen-Pygmalion She's All That and a dash of Varsity Blues and throwing in mile-a-minute references to others. There's a lot of John Hughes (including a cameo by Molly Ringwald) and many more, including one to the opening of Airplane! -- proving that at least the filmmakers were aware of their genre's royalty.
The lowbrow humour of teen sex comedies is unsurprisingly mirrored, but with less spite and much less misogyny than might be expected. And the high points are glorious, at least for those of us who saw all of the embarrassingly terrible films being referenced. I haven't seen Varsity Blues in 20 years, but seeing its only memorable scene skewered still felt fresh.
