Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The Host was exciting and all, but when I think of Bong Joon-ho I remember an image from Memories of Murder: a detective in a sunlit field, peering into a drain.
Mother is the same kind of quiet, psychological thriller. The plot -- Kim Hye-ja attempts to prove that her developmentally disabled son (Bin Won) is innocent of murder -- has a very dark edge, revealed gradually as her investigation takes increasingly unwholesome turns. It's full of arresting images, but it's carried by Kim's amazing performance.

Not to be missed.
