Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Low budget, naturalistic time-travel movie with a justified reputation for being difficult to follow. Aaron and Abe, engineers by day and startup inventors by night, inadvertently create a time machine; initially they make every effort to avoid creating paradoxes and only exploit it to make a profit on the stock market, but soon enough strange things start to happen.
Charming as it is not to be talked down to by a science fiction movie, my biggest complaint is that Primer seems wilfully opaque. The course of events is not actually that complicated; it only seems difficult because the pace is a strange exponential curve and several key revelations are glossed over. Perhaps that was deliberate: audiences are likely to walk away the first time feeling confused but intrigued.
I'm not convinced that wilful obscurity -- the pretense of complexity -- is a feature. Still, it's engaging and very well done.
