Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Every character here is fully-formed; Melville leaves them for over an hour of slow build before the heist is even planned. The burglary itself approaches that of Rififi for sheer hushed tension.
Another winner from the master of French crime, Jean-Pierre Melville: a long, slow pressure-cooker of a caper. Corey (Alain Delon) wastes no time in making enemies after his release from prison, and his new friend Vogel (Gian Maria Volontè) is himself the subject of a manhunt by the cold-blooded inspector Mattei (André Bourvil).

Outstanding.
