Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Larrikins on Trial
It reminded me of Paths of Glory, though it's almost the inverse of that film: there, soldiers are executed for disobeying an illegal order; here they obey it for the same result.
Breaker is far subtler than Paths, however. Both are critical of the high command that doesn't care about the men beyond their value as scapegoats, but this film does offer some justification, hypocritical as it migth be. Moreover, the men here are not unambiguously innocent: the film practically begs for discussion of Milgram, the Nuremberg Defense etc. It's a little sad that the film is so biased towards the Australians that it inhibits pro-British readings, despite the complexity of the situation.
Worth seeing, anyway.
