Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂

Lists
It's a beautiful story, about a single man turning a desolate wasteland into a magnificent forest of oak, beech and birch, but it's narrated in a plodding, stentorian tone: it's such a shame to have so much spelled out in words, because it's also shown with some of the most gorgeous animation I have ever seen, like an impressionist painting in motion.
Even with that quibble, it's a wonderful experience. I've seen few films that so perfectly create sense of hope and of faith in mankind. That night I went to sleep smiling, and there's no greater compliment for a film than to make a real change -- even a small one -- in the viewer's life.
