Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
It's mind-boggling to me that this adaptation of the story of Robin Hood is viewed as a lesser Disney effort, though it's also true that it was my childhood favourite and feelings now admittedly have to be interpreted through that lens. But it's snappily paced, got some fun set-pieces, great characters (especially Terry-Thomas's Hiss) and a charming emotional core touching on values of community and solidarity. The songs are rare and unusually well-integrated; the film's opening introduction to "Oo-de-lally" is a masterclass in economical scene-setting, magically managing opening action sequence that also seems cozy. That's the word I like for this one. It's wonderful and it appears that I will never get tired of it.
