Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Awful awful awful awful.
It's never a good sign when a winner of the Best Picture Oscar is worse than Pterodactyl Woman from Beverly Hills.
Broderick Crawford's powerful performance strays too often into bombast, but no delivery could possibly save the lines he's forced to read. He and Mercedes McCambridge are all the film has going for it. Joanne Dru is shockingly bad, the politics are less subtle than a high-school essay, and at times the atrocious dialogue seems like a merciful break from the endless stream of campaign montage.
Actually painful to watch.
