Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A noble family is betrayed and dishonoured; five Yang sons are murdered, leaving only Yang 6 (Alexander Fu Sheng), driven temporarily mad, and Yang 5 (Gordon Liu), who seeks training at a Shaolin temple. The plot is slightly confused, courtesy of Fu Sheng's death during production; early scenes weren't re-shot, but the rest of the film had to be rewritten to accommodate a new star.
Liu doesn't have the same gravitas, but it's still worth seeing for the brilliant fight scenes and the rare capture of that perfect "epic" feeling. It's one of the greats.
