Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A clean-cut young gun enthusiast (Tim O'Kelly) goes postal just as Byron Orlok (Boris Karloff), a retiring monster-movie star, prepares to make his final public appearance.
Though it's interesting for its "classic horror meets true crime" concept, the juxtaposition of the two stories is clumsy and ineffective. You could charitably argue that Peter Bogdanovich is manipulating the medium to a point about the chasm between Hollywood and real life, but I don't think so: ultimately it degrades into a feeble swan-song for the golden age of film.
These quibbles aside, Karloff is excellent and worth the price of admission.
