Bill Chandler (William Powell) is hired by The Evening Star to get the paper out of a libel suit brought by Connie Allenbury (Myrna Loy) against it; the method he devises is an elaborate con, which of course ends in romance and "happily ever after". One of the best of the screen pairings between the pair (most famously including The Thin Man), the cast is rounded out by Spencer Tracey and Jean Harlow.
