Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring (2003)
Beautiful, beautiful film about the ebb and flow of life at a small temple in the middle of a remote lake. A monk raises a child, who becomes a man, discovers the harshness of the world, and eventually returns to the temple -- where, one day, another child is abandoned in his care.
The quiet spirituality of it is rather upset by "Summer", then "Autumn"; and if the film has any weakness, it's the latter's melodrama and injection of magical realism. Or is it a weakness? I can't quite decide, but I have a feeling I'll be coming back again and again to think about it.
