Betty (Claudette Colbert), hapless new wife of Bob (Fred MacMurray), is surprised after their wedding to hear of his enthusiasm for chicken farming -- and is dragged off to live in a dilapidated country farmhouse while they try to make a go of it. It's almost physically painful now to hear Betty enthusiastically talk about how it's all the man's decision, and her surprising second act choice to do what she wants rather than listen to him is of course overturned for the sake of romance. Colbert is wonderful but it's not entirely clear what she sees in him. The offensive portrayal of the local rubes is only partly offset when they predictably come good in the end. Incredibly dated and justly forgotten.
