Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
Embarrassing as a movie fan to have taken so long to see a film by Andrei Tarkovsky, but his first seems like a good place to start: the tale of Ivan (Nikolai Burlyayev), a boy who begins spying behind enemy lines after German invaders murder his mother. A beautiful tragedy perfectly reflective of cinema as an art form -- this is not a film which could be a book or a play. Astonishing cinematography from Vadim Yusov. What a debut!
