Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The Jerk, Steve Martin's first film, was supposedly developed from a line in his comedy routine: "It wasn't always easy for me; I was born a poor black child."
That theme is visible throughout -- after Navin (Martin) leaves home, he endures a series of extremely quotable adventures, each seemingly intended as a vehicle for a single surreal line or image. At its best it foreshadows the kind of material used, with much greater density, in The Naked Gun and other Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker productions.
