Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
A young socialite (Goldie Hawn), distraught after the sudden death of her (asshole) husband on their wedding night, is suckered by a recruiter into joining the army.
It's an odd film, tonally -- while ultimately a dramedy about personal development, the serious themes of relationship strife are juxtaposed with occasional gag comedy, such as pranks played on uptight Captain Lewis (Eileen Brennan). Just when it's looking like Stripes it turns rom-com, only to also veer away from that.
It's an enjoyable ride and Hawn is delightful, but it's too unfocused to really work.
