Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
The sequel to Jean de Florette, part two of Claude Chabrol's magical adaptation of the Marcel Pagnol novel L'eau des collines.
Some years after the first film, little Manon (Emmanuelle Béart) has a grown into a wild, beautiful shepherdess. Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil) is happily operating his flower farm; Cesar (Yves Montand) is waiting for him to provide an heir. When Manon learns the truth of her father's death, she wreaks a vengeance that pales to insignificance besides that which the Soubeyrans inflict upon themselves.
As beautiful as the first film and even more tragic, like a richly-human Sophocles transported to Provence. It's perfect.
