Sergeant Howie (Edward Wooward) heads to the island community of Summerisle to investigate a murder, only to find it populated by terribly heathens -- pagans, ignorant of the word of Our Lord Jesus Christ! It's a great little film, part The Prisoner, part Straw Dogs, part... it can't really be classified. The story is engrossing, with surprising thematic depth for a thriller; Woodward is intense, and Christopher Lee excels as the charismatic Lord Summerisle.
