Taut Raoul Walsh thriller starring James Cagney as Arthur "Cody" Jarrett, a demented gangster with an unhealthy attachment to his mother. The narrative is a bit of a jumble, but Cody is such an object of fascination that even by-the-numbers plot developments maintain interest. High art it ain't, but it's a great bit of classic entertainment. Highly recommended.
