Part of the charm, of course, is that the pre-Code subject matter -- a comedy of crime and infidelity -- was too scandalous to repeat in the thirty years following. It's rather delicate by modern standards, but without the moral centre needed to satisfy the censors. No other movie has made me regret Hays as much as this one has: it's very funny, very clever, and charmingly, inoffensively saucy. A must see.
