Film Illiterate, wherein the proprietor records movies seen, and sporadic progress through assorted lists of the "best". Originally started after regretfully renting something forgettable for the third time. I've forgotten what, but never again! A tedious endeavour since 2005. Hello. 🙂
I thought I ought to fill in some holes in my pop-culture education, such as this 80s Kevin Bacon hit about a city boy clashing with a small-town preacher who has outlawed dancing.
And it's much better than expected. It's not some rebel-without-a-cause nonsense; characters are plausible and even the preacher, John Lithgow, is well-rounded and treated respectfully. It feels like an authentic portrait of a certain place and time, likeable and compelling.
(Or maybe it just seemed great coming right after Flashdance...)
