Bingeing ahead of Endgame: the general trend of this exercise has been "better than I remembered". Seeing them all at once does help see how consistently high the bar has been set and how different they are, despite the "Marvel formula". Guardians does feel formulaic, but it's so fun and effortlessly stylish that it's just a joy to watch.

Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), is a mercenary scavenger who recovers the wrong artifact: an orb wanted by the Kree warlord Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace).
After a series of plot twists that will surprise precisely no-one, Quill ends up battling Ronan alongside a crew of assorted super-powered freaks, while moving along the overarching Infinity Stone narrative presumed to conclude in Avengers 3.
Guardians of the Galaxy just makes me feel old. It's stylish and action packed, with plenty of humour, but the whole thing just feels vacuous. The same Whedonesque formula that worked in The Avengers feels less successful here, largely because none of the characters has the same depth. Not a single beat is missed, but I still walked out feeling like what I had seen was hollow, all surface with nothing beneath.
