Don't get me wrong; I don't hate fanfiction.
I appreciate the value of the community as a way for people to show their appreciation, and as a great motivation and source of support for eager writers.
I've said before that I enjoyed A.J. Hall's "Lust Over Pendle", for example, more than most of the books in the series it was based on. In the hands of a talented author, even a story about the gangland killing of a Pokémon by a Care Bear could be clever and poignant.
Unfortunately, in my experience, that kind of talent is rare. I've run across far too many disturbing scenes of underage love between Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, or read in tortured prose of Legolas' torrid affair with Gimli. Could you ever look at "Star Trek" the same way after reading a Jean-Luc Picard bukkake fic? A poorly-written bukkake fic?
Far from the heights of quality fanfiction, fans work tirelessly to churn out strange, nonsensical pornography. A lot of it seemed quite fomulaic: "take any two characters, then make them have sex."
Surely a script could do as well?
Or so I thought. I still think it possible, but this script does fall far short of the mark.
It is very limited. It doesn't generate its text based on Markov chains, or similar, applied to a corpus of existing material, because coherence seemed more important than infinite variety. Text is generated according to specific templates, currently very few in number, so the resultant fanfiction is very repetitive.
Donations of new sentence templates or vocabulary are gratefully accepted.
